Charging Networks in Geneva

Geneva's public charging infrastructure is fragmented across multiple networks. The main ones are:

  • SIG (Services Industriels de Genève): The city's own network, with the most points across the canton. Download the SIG e-drive app for live availability.
  • Socar Energy: Operates many of the car park-integrated chargers. Uses the Socar app or contactless card.
  • EasyPark: Aggregator app that works across multiple networks. Good for occasional users who do not want multiple apps.
  • Tesla Supercharger: Geneva has several Tesla Supercharger stations, including near the airport and in Vernier.

Cost of EV Charging vs Fuel in Geneva

At CHF 0.45/kWh (public AC charging), a 60kWh EV battery costs approximately CHF 27 for a full charge. That typically gives 300-400km of range in normal Swiss conditions. A comparable petrol fill of 45 litres at CHF 1.85/litre costs CHF 83.

EV driving is significantly cheaper per kilometre in Switzerland, even at public charging rates. Home charging overnight (domestic tariff CHF 0.20-0.25/kWh) is even cheaper, bringing the full charge cost to CHF 12-15.
